On-Off Relationship

In the community forums, Joanne advised a woman who was concerned about a guy who keeps on hurting her emotionally with their on-off relationship. The woman felt terribly depressed. She wrote:

This is an early relationship in your life, and with time, you will come to see it as a bad experience, something to avoid. You will be able to spot a guy like this from a hundred paces.

When someone goes back and forth on you, they will always do so. Nothing magically happens to make them want to stick around through the bad times later.

So take it for what it is – an ealry learning experience about relationships. He is too immature to keep a commitment. He is using you, treating you like a conquest. He is probably unaware of your feelings, and no amount of talking can make him become aware. Period.

Right now, be single for a while and treat yourself especially well. That way, when someone treats you as well as you treat yourself, you will recognize it, and not settle for someone who treats you badly.
